This position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of Company ABC premises and staff uniforms and participates in the inventory management process.

This position is required to clean, prepare the cleaner requisition lists, participate in the counting of stock and respond to staff requests for general assistance.

This position reports to the Administrative Officer and receives verbal direction from this individual.

This position does not supervise or direct any staff (no direct reports).

The position encounters frequent problems related to:

  • The constant traffic of staff and customer whilst cleaning the inside of the office premises
  • Lack of a well-defined and recognised work schedule for the cleaners
  • Cleaners are not allowed to clean some offices while the occupants are in them which affects the full execution of the responsibilities within a given eight and half time frame

This position does not encounter any difficult problems.

This position has access to a supervisor and/or other employees in order to resolve the following problem(s):

·         Abuse of toilet facilities by staff

·         Areas or specific items that require repairs e.g. taps, sinks, toilets, etc

·         Sanitary items stolen from the toilets


This position does not have any regular internal or external contacts outside the department.


·         Ensure that the inside of the office premises are always clean

o          daily dusting, sweeping, mopping and removal of trash

·         Ensure that the staff of the Pharmaceutical Main Store (PMS), Technical Service Department (TSD) and Production Unit (PU) have clean uniforms for use

o          collecting the uniforms from the respective departments, washing and ironing them daily

·         Ensure that the purchase orders and receipts from the cashier are filed

o          punching and putting the purchase orders and receipts in their respective files as and when required

·         Ensure that the cleaners have adequate cleaning materials and equipment

o          regularly checking for the inputs required and making a requisition list

·         Participate in the store stock taking process

o          physically counting the items in the store

·         Provide help to all Company ABC staff as and when required

o          responding to requests such as internally delivering messages and written communications, serving tea, as well as packing and loading purchased goods for the customer


This position requires intense physical labour, including:

  • Scrubbing and mopping of floors; this is done as required (could be done daily, every other day or once a week) and normally lasts 6 hours
  • Lifting/moving boxes of supplies using a hand pallet to clean around or underneath them, The boxes weigh anything between 250-500kg; this is done 1-2 times in a week and usually lasts 5 minutes
  • Hand washing the collars of the white coats and cream overalls; this is done daily and usually lasts 20 minutes
  • Ironing 12-15 pieces of staff uniforms; this is done daily and usually last one and half hours

Some areas that require cleaning are very dusty given the dusty area the Company ABC offices are located in. The dust usually causes a cold/flu. The cleaning of these dusty areas is done once week and usually lasts for 30 minutes.

Presence of acid especially in the areas where the forklift batteries are recharged. In addition, the batteries of the forklifts discharge acid on the concrete floor as they move about in the PMS. The cleaning of the concrete floor is done as and when required (could be done daily, every other day or once a week) and it normally lasts 6 hours.

Heavy workload and the need to meet deadlines e.g. ensuring that the staff uniforms are washed and ironed on top of carrying out all the other responsibilities within a time framework of eight and half hours. The mental stress is experienced twice a week and it usually lasts the whole day
