RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of training and development to Company ABC customers and provides marketing, communication and consultancy services for Company ABC.

This position is required to conduct training needs assessments, training workshops, training evaluations, information dissemination, advisory services and field research.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE:

This position reports to the Deputy General Manager and receives written and verbal direction from this individual.

This position does not have any regular internal or external contacts outside the department.

This position provides indirect guidance to:

·         Deputy General Manager: training of Company ABC staff based on the training needs assessments

·         Deputy General Manager /Head of Procurement/Head of PMS: choice of medicines or pharmaceutical products on the market. The guidance is given to them in their capacity as members of the procurement committee

·         Sales officers/Dispatch Officers: prescription interpretation, medicine interaction, dosage and side effects

·         Head of PMS/Head of PU: required storage conditions for particular pharmaceutical products

This position receives indirect guidance from:

·         General Manager: special assignments/projects, on policy and budgeting issues

·         Deputy General Manager: HR activities

·         Head of PMS: training requirements of PMS staff, availability of pharmaceuticals products and progress on interns attached to the department

·         Head of PU: training requirements of PU staff and quality control processes

·         Head of TSD: training requirements of TSD staff, and availability of equipment

·         Head of Finance and Accounts: accounts related issues

·         Administrative Officer: transport related issues

·         Lack of a particular medicine e.g. in case a customer requests for medicine that is not stocked by Company ABC and is not available on the local market the dead of department is approached to establish whether it could be imported under a special order

Contacts:

This position has contact with the following individuals, departments and/or external contacts on the following basis:

·         Head of PMS/PU/Procurement (PMS, PU and Procurement Dept respectively): To identify pharmaceutical products required by the customers, on a daily basis

·         Head of PMS/PU/Procurement/TSD/Finance and Accounts (PMS, PU, Procurement, TSD and Finance and Accounts Dept respectively): To identify the training needs of their staff, on a daily basis

·         Mission Hospitals and Health Units, Medical Superintendents and Administrators: To offer \training and information on pharmaceutical products, on a quarterly basis

·         Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda, Secretary to the Council: To invite their trainers to participate in Company ABC organised training workshops, on a weekly to monthly basis

·         WHO, EDP Country Specialist: To obtain information regarding essential drugs and also invite their trainers to participate in Company ABC organised training workshops, on a quarterly basis

·         National Drug Authority (regulatory body for drugs): to invite them to participate in Company ABC organised training workshops

·         Ministry of Health: to attend the Drug and Procurement Committee meetings on behalf of Company ABC

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         To provide training and development services to Company ABC customers

o          conducting training need assessments for Company ABC customers

o          developing and organising pharmaceutical and technical training to Company ABC customers

o          supervising the placement/internship program at Company ABC

o          conducting evaluations for the training offered to the participants

·         To provide marketing and communication services to Company ABC

o          preparing and disseminating a quarterly drug information bulletin

o          preparing and disseminating Company ABC product price catalogue

o          conducting field visits

·         To provide research and consultancy services to Company ABC

o          offering advisory services to existing and potential customers

o          conducting meetings, seminars and workshops for Company ABC customers and staff

o          initiating and conducting research in area that are beneficial to Company ABC and its customers

·         Provide reports to the following individuals, departments and/or external contacts on the following basis:

o         communication and development report to Management Team to indicate the performance of the communication and development officer activities, on a quarterly basis

o         external meetings and workshop reports to Management Team to update management team on field visit progress, on a weekly basis

QUALIFICATIONS:

Relevant Bachelors Degree and experience
