Personal Leave

Policy Rationale

To provide employees with paid time off from work for personal reasons and emergencies.

Eligibility

All employees are eligible.

Description

Employees may take up to enter number of days here working days of personal leave each fiscal year.  Employees with enter number of years here or more years of continuous service may take up to enter number of days here working days of personal leave each fiscal year. Employees who reach their enter number of years here year service date, the additional days will be available for use at the start of the fiscal year following their enter number of years here year anniversary date. Continuous service is calculated from the employee’s hire date, including approved leaves of absence.

Personal leave is prorated for part-time employees.

Procedure

For emergencies, advance permission for personal leave is not required.  However, employees must notify their supervisor as soon as possible.  For all other uses of personal leave, permission from the supervisor must be obtained at least  hours in advance.

Unused personal leave does not accumulate and is not added to the next year’s personal leave bank.  Each fiscal year, employee personal leave banks are topped-up to the enter number of days here maximum.

Upon termination, personal leave banks are cancelled. Personal leave cannot be taken after an employee’s termination date.

Records

Departments are responsible for maintaining the accuracy of personal leave records.
