RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sales Technician is responsible for inventory management and customer service.  In order to carry out these responsibilities, the Sales Technician checks, audits and counts inventory, sells and repairs equipment in compliance with company procedures, and disseminates information and knowledge the Company ABC customer base.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE:

The Sales Technician reports to the Head of Technical Service Department (TSD) and receives verbal and written direction and instructions.

There are no subordinates reporting to The Sales Technician.

The Sales Technician provides direction and guidance to the following positions:

  • Head of Procurement and Procurement Officer:  The Sales Technician helps Procurement choose medical equipment suppliers and provides advice on existing stock levels and required stock.
  • Communications and Development Officer: Guidance on the registered units that require training.

There are other positions throughout Company ABC that provide direction or guidance to the Sales Technician:

  • Head of Finance and Accounts: Finance provides direction on whether or not to allow a customer to purchase goods on credit.

NATURE OF WORK AND JOB SCALE:

Freedom to Act:

This work of this position originates from TSD.  Completed work is sent to TSD and is reviewed and approved by the Head of TSD.

Challenges:

The position encounters frequent problems related to:

  • Workload e.g. handling many customers at the same time, each with their own problems.

The most difficult problems this position encounters include:

  • Balancing the act of attending to the customer and at the same time receive and verify an incoming consignment

This position has access to a supervisor in order to resolve the following problem(s):

  • Delays by the procurement Dept in procuring supplies
  • Customer complaints that I cannot handle
  • Goods returned by the customers

This position has access to other employees in order to resolve the following problem(s):

  • Head of Procurement and Procurement Officer - Clarification on delivery dates

Contacts:

This position has contact with the following individuals, departments and/or external contacts on the following basis:

  • Communication and Development Officer: to identify the hospital technicians from Company ABC registered units that require basic training in medical equipment maintenance, on a monthly basis
  • Procurement Officer: to forward order requests to the Procurement Department, on a daily basis
  • Head of Procurement at the World Health Organization: to provide advisory services on medical equipment worth shs 8,000,000 or more
  • NGOs, logistics officers: to provide advisory services on medical equipment worth shs 5-20 million, on a monthly basis
  • Wellyn and Allyn (Medical equipment suppliers), Technical Officer: to obtain technical advisory services, on a monthly basis
  • Scanoptics (Medical equipment suppliers), Product Manager: to obtain technical advisory services, on a monthly basis
  • Seca (Medical equipment suppliers), Area Marketing Manager: to obtain technical advisory services, on a monthly basis
  • Tultanuer (Medical equipment suppliers), Technical Engineering Officer: to obtain technical advisory services, on a monthly basis
  • BTL (Medical equipment suppliers), Technical Support: to obtain technical advisory services, on a monthly basis
  • Government of Uganda Hospitals: to obtain advisory services on medical equipment
  • Bank of Uganda Clinic (Central Bank Clinic): to obtain advisory services on medical equipment

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in The TSD Sales process:
    • Conducts daily issuance of sales orders and quotations
    • Receives and dispatches stock
  • Participates in The TSD inventory management process:
    • Records incoming and outgoing stock
    • Checks and counts inventory
    • Prints out re-order lists
  • Provides customers with the necessary information and knowledge related to medical equipment:
    • Develops brochures
    • Participates in training sessions
  • Participates in The TSD after sales process:
    • Repairs equipment

Provide reports to the following individuals, departments and/or external contacts on the following basis:

Sales Report to Deputy General Manager and Head of TSD to provide sales performance of TSD, on a monthly basis

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires the incumbent to lift heavy items while arranging the store and to receive or dispatch goods (20 kg) daily.

The incumbent is required to satisfy all customers (40 per day), including those who are difficult or abusive, increasing mental stress levels.
