1.     POLICY

·         Vacation entitlements are defined in the out of scope terms and conditions of employment

·         Vacation earned in one year and not used in the subsequent year may be carried over to the following year with the approval of the appropriate General Manager or Director.

·         Considerations to be used as a guide for granting vacation carryover include:

·         The employee could not use vacation credits due to unusual circumstances.

·         The carry-over is planned in advance to allow the employee to take educational courses or to accommodate special vacation plans.

2.     PURPOSE

·         To define the vacation year for all employees.

·         To provide guidelines for managers in the approval of vacation carry-over.


·         Employees who wish to carry over vacation must make the request to their supervisor in writing at least  weeks prior to the end of the vacation year.

·         Managers should use the guidelines outlined above when approving requests for leave.

·         Guidance for requests not outlined above may be sought from Human Resources.
